Disruption to internet services in south Asia and the Middle East continues after undersea cable damage.
The Unity cable has been under development for several months, and Google is said to have met with Telstra (Australia?s largest telco) and Asia Netcomm in Sydney last week. The cable would run to Australia via Guam and Hawaii.
Unity hopes to have a cable in service by 2009, the publication wrote. It would own a dedicated portion of the multi-terabit cable, giving it a significant cost advantage for trans-Pacific data transmission over rival Internet companies.
